You have noticed that whenever you create an xy scatter chart in Excel, the x-axis labels are numeric and not textual.

You want to depict temperatures (in degree celsius) of various cities around the world on a scatter chart.

City Temperature
Cape Town 22
Dubai 28
Frankfurt 3
Istanbul 18
London 9
Mumbai 35
Toronto -1

When you create an xy scatter chart, the x-axis labels will show in numeric like below,

Insert XY Scatter chart

Insert XY Scatter chart

x-axis labels in numeric

x-axis labels in numeric

Since the xy scatter chart is specifically designed to be used when x-axis values are numeric only, you will actually have to select a different chart for this purpose.
